Change in size of guide.
On Wednesday I was unable to attend college due to work, but I found out this morning that the rest of the group has come to the conclusion that it is just not going to be manageable to fit all the necessary information into a passport sized book, the challenge would be designing each page and managing to include all information and info graphs while keeping it legible and visually pleasing.
We have decided that the solution to this problem would be to increase the size of the book to make it A5 format. This is not ideal as one of the main points of this book is to keep it 'travel sized' which would allow the bussiness man to have it on them at all times by just keeping it in their pocket. This would encourage the use of the book, as if the book is too large and they can't fit it into their pocket then it is more likely they will just find the book a hassle to carry around.
If we had more time on this brief, I believe that this problem could be resolved by just changing layouts and changing how we present the written information, however as we only have 2 days before deadline I believe for now that changing the page size would be the quickest and smartest solution. By doing this we will also still be able to print the guide on the printers upstairs. this is not ideal but since the brief has started we found the digital print room downstairs was booked apart from drop ins, so still having a book size that can be printed onto A4 paper will solve that problem as well as keeping the cost of the book down.
Cover design.
Taking influence from an existing A5 business booklet the group also decided it would be best to keep the cover simple. We wanted to use the handshake logo that I designed, keeping it simple and small in the corner of the cover. so I will manipulated my existing logo to fit with this decision, I will try different variations of sizes and layouts and see which one the group is most happy with.
We have also decided to name the book 'The Travelling Businessman' which also originated from my first logo ideas.
We still plan to keep the main features of the book. which would be;
- A comparison of the America and China
- Mainly info graphs with as little amounts of text as possible.
- The use of tabs on the side of the page to ensure the reader knows what section they are on or need to go to.
We will use 'Helvetica' font Point sizes:
- title - 22pt
- labelling/info graphs - 10pt
- body text - 8pt
