Design Practice 1 - Communication is a virus // Crit Feedback 09/02/12

The crit this week didn't really go very well, and it wasn't that much of a surprised to be honest, I had realised over the past couple of days that trying to explain the concept to people, even after the product was made was quite difficult, which in turn made me realise that maybe the message we were trying to convey was actually not as clear as we thought, I think we got so wrapped up in the design of the piece and making sure the visuals all matched and we really forgot about creating a clear message that people will view - understand - and walk away, where as ours seems to be a little too abstract to be classed as good communicative design.

I do not rule out that with alterations and a few changes to the concept we could be onto a good product but as it is at the moment I am not particularly that happy with it.

The crit just reinforced my worries, when we were trying to explain the concept to Jo and Amber, they seemed to be having real trouble understanding the design of the box, confused by why the names were in the box and what 'YOU' is doing on the front, they seemed to be still confused even after further explanation, this is what I was worried about.

Jo said the message is not presented in a very clear way, the idea of public participation is a good one and the concept of people interacting with something to understand the message could work very well, but we haven't gone about it in the right way.

They pointed out we still have no way of measuring results from the product, which is true.

The Banner helped them understand eventually and after the video was shown they responded well to that, but suggested that we should try and alter the concept over the weekend to try and help our product communicate more clearly.

After the crit, we were all pretty much at a loss of what to do.

We then thought that maybe we could make the video as one of our main products and push it as a viral video that can be found via tumblr, This would mean we would communicate to a larger audience, whilst still keeping the original element of public interaction but then through the video and tumblr the message will be passed around .
