Design practice // It's your choice

We have been asked to look back over the past briefs we have have covered since the beginning of the year, and choose a brief that we would like to re-do / use as a basis.

After looking through the completed brief, I thought it might be a good opportunity to go back and work on the type based briefs we had at the beginning of the year. As it was the first brief we had individually, the hand drawn type brief 'Alphabet Soup' where we had to create 5 typefaces that were designed around a word.
My word was expand, as we have an opportunity to develop or change an existing brief I wanted to take this one and create an entire typeface based on the word expand, instead of just focusing on one letter form.

I wanted to design an entirely different typeface from any of the examples I produced earlier in the year, so i spent some time experimenting with shapes and letters i thought helped suit the word 'Expand'.

There are various options, but i think sticking to a simple design will benefit me.
I chose this font to take into illustrator, as I have learnt before, I may have certain difficulties as I work my way through the alphabet, as a majority of the letters can suite the type design perfectly, but if I cant find a way to develop each letter so that it fits the theme, then it would ruin the entire type face.

for the word expand, i feel like if I tried to exaggerate and 'expand' individual elements of each letter then it would highlight the concept of the type expanding, However i would still like the entire typeface to look comfortable as a set, so there should be a constant theme throughout the alphabet and possibly if the elements chosen from each letter are not patterned or organised then the alphabet could look too bitty and random as a group, therefore If I try to expand the same element of each letter, then it would create a theme and help the typeface gel as a whole.

These are a couple more options/ ideas, but in this case i think that these particular styles would only suite a minimal amount of letter forms, and i would find it difficult to do the remainder of the alphabet in the same style.

I decided to focus on this option where i will expand the left stem of each capital letter, Obviously  this will not be possible for all letters but for a majority the only thing that will change is side of the stem that is expanded
